City of Belgrade lies at beautiful natural space where the River Sava merges into the River Danube.Belgrade is situated in South-Eastern Europe, on the Balkan Peninsula.With opening of the Rhine-Main-Danube canal, Belgrade came to the center of the most important fluvial route in Europe, the North Sea-Black Sea route. The Danube flows through 60 km of Belgrade area, while the Sava covers 30 km, together they make 16 River islands, several of them in the central part of the city (Ada, Ratno ostrvo, Ada Huja...).

Belgrade is one of the oldest cities in Europe, its history lasts 7000 years. Remains of human bones and skulls of Neanderthals date back to the early Stone Age. The British Encyclopedia of Cities mentions that it is the city about which the greatest number of battles had been waged, but also the city with the greatest number of symbolic names: the Hill of Battle and Glory, the Hill for Meditation, the House of Wars, the House of Freedom, the Gate of the Balkan, the Gateway of the East, the Gate of the West...

The Slavic name Belgrade (Beli Grad - White Town) was mentioned for the first time on april 16, 878, in a written document - a letter of Pope Jone VIII to the Bulgarian Khan Boris I. Belgrade is the main city of Serbia and has a population of around 1.6 million. Financial Times has organized European cities and regions of the future for 2006/07 and Belgrade was awarded the name City of the future in Southern Europe.
