Vice Chairman Chu Xiangyin Meets with Mr. James Mirrlees, Winner of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences

On May 22, Vice Chairman Chu Xiangyin met with Mr. James Mirrlees, winner of the 1996 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, who came to Beijing to be present at the 15th China Beijing International High-tech Expo (CHITEC).
Mr. Chu firstly thanked Mr. Mirrlees for his presence at this CHITEC, and gave a report themed on “Development of Real Economy in Post Financial Crisis Era”. He briefly introduced the CHITEC’s development, pointed out that the CHITEC, at the beginning of its founding, is to realize industrialization of technological innovation and introduce innovative technologies; that the present CHITEC pays more attention to the internationalization and industrialization of novel domestic technologies along with the enhanced innovation ability of domestic industries.
Mr. Mirrlees expressed his appreciation for the invitation to this CHITEC. He said that he witnessed rapid growth of Chinese economy during his several recent visits to China. With regard to industrial innovation and upgrade, he stated that governments should provide more preferential policies to stimulate industrial upgrade; that enterprises should deeply understand the innovation to accomplish utility-type innovations for self-development at the same time. In particularly, he stressed the meaning of innovation and pointed out that the innovation is not only the technological breakthrough, but more masterly combination of technology and life, so as to industrialize such combination for improving the living level.
James Mirrlees won the 1996 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his contributions to the Asymmetric Information Theory.
